Abstract
Here, the Mysidacea found in night samples taken at Gazi bay in 1994 are described. I found 6 genera that have been previously described in the Eastern African region, yet not all in Kenya itself. Siriella, Hypererythrops, Mesopodopsis and Heteromysis had not yet been described in Kenya. Haplostylus and Mysidopsis had already been described for Kenya. Both species live at a depth relevant for my samples. Also Nouvelia natalensis was described for Kenya, but did not appear in my samples. I did not further determine the encountered genera to species level. The fauna of the night samples were dominated by Mysidacea that represented 54.14% of the all the animals caught. Also abundant were Amphipoda Gammaridea (32.74%), Ostracoda (2.95%), Copepoda Caianoida (1.74%), Cumacea (1.48%), Caridea (1.4%) and Chaetognatha (1.05%). Also present but less abundant (i.e. density < 1% of the total fauna) were: Prosobranchia, Isopoda, Polychaeta, fish larvae, Opisthobranchia, Caprellida, Scyphozoa, Tanaidacea, Brachyura, Bivalvia, megalopa larvae of Brachyura, Pisces, Cephalopoda, Nebalicea, Ascidicea, Anomura and Caridea zoea larvae.
